FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: What is CarePortal?

A: CarePortal is an online platform that connects local needs to the local church as part of the Global Orphan Project. It is currently being utilized in 36 states and 44 counties in Georgia. Visit their website to learn more.

Q: What’s the point?

A: CarePortal enables us to be a light in dark places. It provides opportunities to be the hands and feet of Jesus in the world by responding to local needs.

Q: How does it work?

A: A child welfare case manager working with a family becomes aware of a tangible need. That need is entered into the CarePortal, which then disseminates the need to local church members who have “opted in” to receive email notifications of needs in their area.

Q: How do I get involved in CarePortal?

A: Select your church below and fill out the form to begin receiving email notifications of needs near you.

Q: What types of needs will I receive requests for?

A: Needs vary with each family. Typical ones may include a mattress and bedframe for a child moving in with relatives, household furnishings for a mom who is welcoming her children home from foster care, car seats, clothing, or funds to pay a utility bill.

Q: How do I meet a need?

A: Click the orange “Yes, I can Help” button in the email notification. Reread the details of the need. Check the box to the item you would like to help with, and choose provide or fund. Comment on how you can help and click the “Respond” button. This will trigger an email to the case manager, then they will follow up to provide the details to meet the need.

Q: What about safety?

A: The Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS) is working with each of these families in some capacity. When appropriate, the DFCS case manager may recommend dropping items at the DFCS office. When you meet a family, it’s always a good idea to bring a buddy.

Q: Can I give cash?

A: Opt for items or gift cards over cash.
